Portush Beach Party: june 17th 2006
British DJ FATBOY SLIM has confirmed he will play a dance music marathon on a beach in Northern Ireland in June (06). Slim, aka NORMAN COOK, will spin seven hours of worth of discs at Portrush Strand, County Antrim, to thousands of fans. Promoter GARY MCGUIGAN, says, “Fatboy Slim is bringing with him a 40 foot by 40 foot video wall, which has been used at Mount Fuji, Electric Picnic in Dublin and Rio de Janeiro – so we are really getting a world-class act here.” Security is being stepped up for the beach party after a previous Fatboy Slim event went disastrously wrong: in July 2002, a free beach party in Brighton, England saw one man dying of a heart attack and a woman falling to her death in the unruly crowds.

You’ll never read this but let me reminisce anyway. I was working security at that gig and my employer EventSec had no idea what they were at so they said to me “you’re in section ‘A7′” or something. I had no idea what that was and didn’t care. I walked right up to the backstage entrance, bold as brass, and met you and Zoe. Coolest people ever. I just wandered from back to front stage for the whole ‘event’, and it was a fking event. Best show ever. And I got paid and drank some of your Heineken backstage. Don’t feel old but I’m 46 now.
