Boris Brejcha (Czech pronunciation: [ˈbrɛjxaː]; born November 26, 1981, in Ludwigshafen am Rhein) is a German DJ and record producer. He describes his music style as "high-tech minimal."[1] His style has been compared with DJ Umek, and Solomun.[2]

Brejcha frequently wears a joker mask based on a Carnival of Venice design.[3] He has performed at clubs and festivals around the world, including Tomorrowland and Coachella.[3] Boris founded the label Fckng Serious in 2015 with Ann Clue and Deniz Bul.[4] He performed for the first time in Ibiza in August 2019, at Hï Ibiza club.[5]

On 24 January 2020, Brejcha released his sixth album Space Diver[6] as his first album for Ultra Records.

In 2021, Brejcha had the 42nd position on DJ Mags Top 100 DJs.[7]

Personal life

Boris Brejcha was born in Ludwigshafen (Germany) in 1981. At the age of six, he was seriously injured in the Ramstein air show disaster becoming badly burnt and spent months in the hospital.[8] He states in an interview:

This was a special incident in my life. I was alone, I was a little boy and I was in an extreme situation.

At the age of forty he still bears extensive scars from the severe burns.[9]

Because of teasing from classmates, Boris withdrew and discovered his interest in music. After a classmate of his brought a "Thunderdome" CD in middle school, he was hooked. He was dying to know how to make this new kind of electronic music. So at the age of twelve, he started producing electronic music himself as a hobby.[10]

He made his first releases in 2006, the same year he had the first performance of his entire career. At the Universo Paralello Festival in Brazil. Since then, his mask is also indispensable. Inspired by the Brazilian Carnival, Boris chose the Joker mask as his trademark. In the international foreign countries his music found fast approval. Numerous gigs, for example South America and Russia, followed.[11]

Since then, Boris has made a full-time living from music and has continued to develop as an artist. With the specially created genre "High-Tech-Minimal" Boris gave his music a name. He went on to release on Autist Records and later on Harthouse. Through the music magazine "Raveline" he was named "exceptional talent 2007".[12]
