DJ tells NME.COM about special guest set for London bash

Fatboy Slim has spoken after it was announced today (February 13) the DJ was confirmed as the first headliner for this year’s O2 Wireless Festival. Taking place in London’s Hyde Park on July 5, he will be joined by dance daddies Underworld and Bootsy Collins.

Speaking exclusively to NME.COM Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, revealed the first time he went to a gig in Hyde Park was to see Queen play. Cook said he’s planning a show-stopping set much like Freddie Mercury and co’s famed gigs, saying: “We’ve got tons of special stuff lined up but nothing I can talk about – but I can tell you it’s going to be all bells and whistles.”

He added:”Obviously my show is just me on the decks so I can’t really up my show – you know, I can’t have like choral backing singers and that, but visually we’re going to try and make it really exciting.”

The star said that he’ll have more freedom to do what he wants compared to his famous beach parties.

He explained: “When you do it (put on a party) on the beach you’ve got constraints with what you can do with the stage and the production – but here we can do exactly what we want.”

Cook is even looking to upstage last year’s Wireless dance maestros Daft Punk.

“People have been going on about Daft Punk last year so I’ll have to look at the footage to make sure we do it right,” he explained before inadvertantly confirming one of the other acts playing “ none other than Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen knob twiddler Mark Ronson.

Cook said the New York producer will play before him.

Fatboy Slim also revealed he has a new album coming out in May, and will be showcasing new tracks from the LP during his set.
